Synopsis of Life

In Los Angeles in 2007, detective Charlie Crews is released from Pelican Bay State Prison after twelve years serving a life sentence for a triple murder he never committed. A DNA test exonerates him, and the lawsuit he files against the city and the Police Department gets him his job back along with a settlement that makes him a millionaire. Returning to the force is not simple. His new partner, detective Dani Reese, has just overcome a drug addiction and is wary of his eccentricities, while Lieutenant Karen Davis watches him with suspicion and looks for a way to push him out. Crews wants to rebuild his life and understand what really happened, but the weight of the lost years does not disappear with an acquittal. The series, created by Rand Ravich, airs on NBC and stars Damian Lewis.

«TV's most intriguing detective. LA's most unsual crimes.»

Trivia about Life

Creator Rand Ravich first conceived the character of Charlie Crews as the basis of the series and, after finishing the pilot script, immediately thought of Damian Lewis for the role.
The 2007–2008 writers' strike meant that only 11 of the 22 episodes planned for the first season were completed.
In Australia, the first episode of Life on Network Ten reached 1,085 million viewers and was among the most-watched programs of that day and time slot.
Life won an AFI Award for Best Television Series in 2008 and was nominated for a VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects, losing to Fringe.
After the first season, half of the writing team, which had started with six writers, decided to leave. According to Rand Ravich, it wasn't because of the strike or creative disagreements.
NBC expanded the initial order of seven episodes with three additional episodes on October 10, 2007, and announced the full season on November 26 of that same year.
The second season aired on Fridays at 22:00, and NBC released its first episode one week before the TV premiere through the internet and on-demand video services.
On May 4, 2009, NBC announced it was canceling the series after two seasons; the decision came after U.S. viewership fell from 10.15 million viewers at the premiere to 5.72 million in later episodes.
