Synopsis of Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is set in Monterey, a town on the northern coast of California, and follows three mothers who live there: Celeste, Jane and Madeline. Jane has just moved to town. She is a single mother looking for a better life, and her arrival opens a chapter she hadn't expected. Madeline is one of the town's most popular women, though also one of the most temperamental. Celeste completes the trio of leads. The three move in the orbit of Otter Bay Elementary, where relations between families begin to strain. A school event upends all their lives and tests the appearances each of them is trying to keep up.

Trivia about Big Little Lies

Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon acquired the rights to Liane Moriarty's novel on August 6, 2014, less than a month after it was published.

Several scenes were shot on location on the Monterey Peninsula, Big Sur, Pacific Grove and Carmel Highlands.

In April 2017, director Jean-Marc Vallée said there was no reason for a second season, since the series had been conceived as a one-time story.

The first season received 16 Primetime Emmy nominations and won 8 awards, including the one for Outstanding Limited Series.

Following the announcement of the second season, the Producers Guild of America reopened its voting for its awards and reclassified the series as a drama rather than a limited series.

The second season ended on a cliffhanger, but Casey Bloys then said a third season did not seem realistic due to the cast's schedule commitments.
