John Adams

John Adams is an American miniseries that follows the adult life of John Adams, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Kirk Ellis wrote the screenplay, and HBO aired it in seven parts, with Paul Giamatti in the lead role and Laura Linney as Abigail, his wife. The story takes place in the British colonies of North America in the 18th century, when the idea of an independent country had yet to take shape. Adams is a Massachusetts lawyer who gets caught up in the political conflicts of his time while seeking recognition and supporting his family. His public and private lives become intertwined, because the decisions he makes in the Continental Congress keep him away from home. The series explores the tension between personal ambition, duty to the new nation, and the uncertainty of a project nobody knows will succeed.
