Jack Quaid was born with two surnames that weigh like lead in the hills of Hollywood. But his first real on-screen appearance was a quick and somewhat cruel death. In 2012, he played Marvel in The Hunger Games. It was a brief role that ended with a spear through his chest after just a few minutes of screen time.
Many children of stars would have gone straight for a leading role to get started. He chose the grind of supporting parts instead. He studied at New York University before hitting the audition circuit, because he wanted to understand the craft from the technical side.
Jack Quaid didn't ask for permission to enter the industry.
In 2016 he joined HBO's series Vinyl. Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger were behind the project, but critics were merciless and the network canceled the show after just one season. That 100 million-dollar commercial flop taught him that big names don't guarantee survival in cable television.
Luck turned in 2019. Eric Kripke was looking for someone who could seem vulnerable and terrified surrounded by psychopathic superheroes. So he signed him for The Boys. His performance as Hughie Campbell is the moral anchor of a series that leans into gore and extreme cynicism.
And the gamble paid off.
During filming of the first season in Toronto, the actor decided he didn't want to be just a familiar face. He started looking for voice-over projects to diversify his range. In 2020, he voiced Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks. It's an animated comedy where he shows a comic timing his parents never fully tapped into.
But his big leap into genre films came in 2022 with the return of Scream. He played Richie Kirsch (a key character to the plot) and had to shoot his scenes under a strict confidentiality agreement so the film's final twist wouldn't leak. That installment grossed 140 million dollars at the global box office and revived interest in the classic slasher.
In 2023, Christopher Nolan cast him as Richard Feynman in Oppenheimer. He wasn't the lead, but sharing the set with Cillian Murphy and shooting on 65 millimeter film changed how he saw large-scale productions. He took part in the Los Alamos laboratory sequences, where the tension could be felt in every take without relying on digital effects.
His career doesn't stop at acting in front of the camera. In 2024, he voiced Clark Kent in the animated series My Adventures with Superman. It's a younger, clumsier version of the hero that fits his nervous energy perfectly.
The actor skips unnecessary red carpets and prefers comic conventions or video game sessions. In 2025, he stars in the sci-fi thriller Companion, produced by Zach Cregger. Filming was directed by Drew Hancock with a small crew to keep the plot's suspense intact.
