Synopsis of The Kominsky Method

Sandy Kominsky was an actor during a brief period of success years ago and today is a highly respected acting teacher in Hollywood. His friend Norman Newlander, who works as his agent, is the companion with whom he shares his free time and the worries of advancing age. Created by Chuck Lorre and streaming on Netflix, the series follows these two friends as they face what it means to grow old in an industry that values youth. Michael Douglas plays Sandy, and Alan Arkin plays Norman. To cope with the problems of old age, the characters rely on humor as their main tool, without losing sight of the craft that has given their lives meaning.

«Some friendships never get old.»

Trivia about The Kominsky Method

Lorre was set to direct the first episode and serve as executive producer alongside Michael Douglas, according to the series' original plans.

Jacqueline Bisset was set to play Sandy's ex-wife, but the role ended up going to Kathleen Turner, her co-star in three earlier films with Michael Douglas.

On September 23, 2020, it was announced that Alan Arkin would not return for the final season, and that Roz Volander would take on a lead role alongside Douglas.

This was Alan Arkin's last television project. He died of a heart attack on June 29, 2023, at age 89.

Jane Seymour plays Madelyn, a figure from Norman's past, in seasons two and three.

During filming of season three, Michael Douglas's hairdresser tested positive for COVID-19, and the actor had to isolate after being in contact with him; the crew used six-foot poles to keep their distance.

Chuck Lorre wrote the series as a spec script inspired by Al Pacino, who took part in a reading with Billy Crystal, Jean Smart, Allison Janney and Anna Faris before leaving the project over differences about improvisation.
