Skeeter Bronson works as a hotel janitor and, between shifts, looks after his nephews. To get them to fall asleep, he reads them bedtime stories of his own making. But soon he notices that what he makes up starts coming true, with no explanation. The protagonist sees this phenomenon as a chance to change his luck and decides to slip his own ambitions into every new story. Until then, his life has been uneventful. The situation, however, starts to spiral out of his hands as the stories multiply. Adam Sandler stars in the film alongside Keri Russell and Guy Pearce, and Adam Shankman directs.

Trivia about What Dreams May Come

Despite its box office success, with 212.9 million dollars earned against a 80 million budget, it received mostly negative reviews.

Director Adam Shankman describes Sandler's character as a kind of "Cinderfella" and adds that he's like Han Solo.

The score was composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams, who recorded it with the Hollywood Studio Symphony at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox.

The ads for the DVD and Blu-ray releases reuse background music from the film Back to the Future Part III.

As of November 1, 2009, the DVD had sold 2,835,662 copies and generated 49,409,944 dollars in sales revenue.

"Bedtime Stories" was Adam Sandler's first family film and the only Disney movie produced by his company Happy Madison Productions. It also earned a PG rating, compared with the PG-13 or R ratings of his previous films.

According to Adam Sandler, Russell Brand earned the highest score among the lead actors in the film's test screenings.

Rob Schneider plays a thief in the modern-day storyline and a Native American horse trader in one of the Western tales; in the latter, he says "I can do it" instead of his usual catchphrase.
