The name Prince invented

Prince changed her name before the world knew who Tara Leigh Patrick was. It happened in Minneapolis in the early nineties, when the musician was looking for a voice for his record label and found a dancer with big ambitions.

In 1993, she recorded a self-titled hip-hop album that went unnoticed on the sales charts. But that commercial failure taught her that her image projected far more power than her songs.

It didn't work.

Before jumping to national television, she worked as a model for fitness magazines and appeared in second-tier fashion catalogs. Everything changed when she decided to move to Los Angeles to try her luck at casting calls for MTV.

Then luck came in the form of a dating show. In 1997, she replaced Jenny McCarthy on Singled Out, and her face became a regular fixture in American homes.

The Red Swimsuit and the Rowdy Comedy

That same year, she got the call to join the cast of Baywatch. It took only one season for her presence to overshadow much of the veteran cast.

But Carmen Electra didn't want to be just a pretty face running along the sand in Malibu.

In 2000, she agreed to appear in Scary Movie to parody her own sex symbol status. The opening scene under the sprinkler became a recurring moment in pop culture of the era.

And that's how she specialized in parody for almost a decade.

She appeared in movies such as Date Movie in 2006 or Epic Movie in 2007, where she always leaned into physical comedy and exaggerating her own beauty. That sense of humor helped her survive in an industry that often drops actresses who rely on their looks quickly.

She accepted the roles others turned down out of fear of looking ridiculous.

Digital Independence and Brand Control

Her private life always generated more headlines than her film scripts. Her brief marriage to Dennis Rodman in Las Vegas in 1998 and her relationship with Dave Navarro years later kept her on the covers of the tabloid press.

In 2004, she starred in the reality show 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave to broadcast her wedding on television. She was one of the first celebrities to understand that selling intimacy was a business far more lucrative than waiting for the phone to ring with Hollywood offers.

But the market changed, and so did she.

In May 2022, she decided to open a profile on OnlyFans to regain full control over her photo shoots. She argued that after years of others making money off her image, it was time to manage her own visual legacy without middlemen.

She appeared in the documentary The Last Dance in 2020, recalling her time with Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.

In 2024, she filmed Alone Together under the direction of William J. Saunders. The budget for her first musical venture with Prince in 1993 was 250,000 dollars.
