Synopsis of Deadwood

Deadwood, South Dakota, 1876. The mining camp has just sprung up six months earlier, shortly after the Custer Massacre, and has no law or authority. Seth Bullock leaves his post as sheriff in Montana to open a hardware store there with his friend and partner, Sol Star. Along the way rides Wild Bill Hickok, the greatest gunfighter of the West, accompanied by Charlie Utter and Calamity Jane. Upon arrival, Bullock meets a stranger who claims that Indians have attacked an immigrant family on the trail, and he and Hickok go out to investigate. At his saloon, Al Swearengen offers bounties on Native American scalps and discounts on drinks and women. Created by David Milch and aired on HBO, the series follows those trying to prosper from gold in a territory where everyone fights for what is theirs.

Trivia about Deadwood

Milch wanted to set the series in ancient Rome, with the religious cross as its central symbol, but HBO already had the series Rome in development.

The first book David Milch bought as research for the series was Deadwood: The Golden Years, by Watson Parker, a historian specializing in the Black Hills.

The word "fuck" is said 43 times in the first hour of the series, a fact that drew attention from its premiere.

Reportedly, the series contains a total of 2,980 "fucks" and an average of 1.56 uses of "fuck" per minute of footage.

The theme music was composed by David Schwartz, who used instruments such as the duduk, the harmonium and kitchen pots.

TV Guide colocó a la serie en el puesto 8 de su lista de 2013 con 60 programas «Cancelled Too Soon».

"Deadwood" won eight Emmy Awards from 28 nominations and a Golden Globe during its three seasons on HBO.

HBO let the cast's contract options lapse before renewing a fourth season; the decision was tied to production costs and the difficulty of reassembling a large ensemble cast.
