Synopsis of Warrior

Warrior is set in San Francisco in the late 1870s, during the Tong Wars, when Chinese criminal organizations fight for control of Chinatown. Ah Sahm is a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China with one goal: to find his sister. His plan goes off the rails when he is sold to one of the most powerful tongs in the neighborhood. There, he navigates rival gangs, the police, and an openly racist white working class, all while he keeps searching for his sister. The series, created by Jonathan Tropper, airs on Cinemax, and its lead is Andrew Koji.

Trivia about Warrior

In 1971, Bruce Lee developed a concept for a series titled Ah Sahm, about a martial artist in the Old West. According to his widow, Warner Bros. reworked it and turned it into Kung Fu, starring David Carradine.

Creator Jonathan Tropper explained that the team selects historical events and filters them through the lens of Warrior, without turning them into a documentary.

Before the renewal, Tropper said that the series' interior sets had been torn down and had to be rebuilt.

Brett Chan was the lead stunt coordinator and also the second unit director, and he and Johnny Yang are part of the stunt team at Hitz International.

Season two earned a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 6 reviews, with an average rating of 9/10.

In April 2021, Warrior was among the 15 most-watched series on HBO Max, the platform it moved to after its run on Cinemax.

Warrior received two nominations at the first Critics' Choice Super Awards.

In February 2024, all three seasons of Warrior became available to stream on Netflix.
