Synopsis of Marshals

Kayce Dutton, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, balances his life as a rancher with a job that is very different from what he knew. In Montana, he leaves the family ranch behind and joins a specialized team of federal marshals, the U.S. Marshals, tasked with protecting the state. Leading the team is Cal Calvin, his former team leader in the Navy, who joined the service to break away from bad habits and adjust to life after the SEALs. Together they chase criminals in a territory where crime coexists with all kinds of tensions. Kayce also has to hold together his family ties and his own head, in a job that wears down those who do it mentally. Marshals blends police procedure with the weight of family and the loyalties inherited from Yellowstone.

Trivia about Marshals

CBS executives commissioned a writers' room for a possible second season in February, before the series premiered and was officially renewed.

The series premiere drew 9.52 million viewers, while Metacritic gave it a score of 57 out of 100 based on 13 critics.

Principal photography took place in Summit County, Utah, with 52 million dollars allocated to production, the same place where Yellowstone had filmed its first three seasons.

The music is by Brian Tyler and Breton Vivian, who had already worked on the earlier Yellowstone series, and Milan Records released the soundtrack.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, responded to questions about the budget with the line "we don't do cheap things."

Marshals is the first show in the franchise to premiere on a linear TV network, and it filled a mid-season programming slot.

Luke Grimes was approached for the series only four months after filming on the final season of Yellowstone wrapped, and at first he doubted it would focus on his character.
