Death Is Not Always the End

The Body follows a woman who vanishes from a Barcelona morgue without a trace. No one knows who took her or why. The case falls to Inspector Jaime Peña, played by José Coronado, a veteran police officer who takes the matter personally. To make progress, Peña needs the help of Álex Ulloa, the widower of the deceased, played Hugo Silva. The two must piece together what happened from an event no one can explain. Directed by Oriol Paulo, the film opens with a mystery that forces the inspector to re-examine every version of events and to distrust everyone around him.

The film premiered as the opening film of the 45th Sitges Film Festival, held in October 2012, before its theatrical release.

Oriol Paulo was nominated for Best New Director at the 27th Goya Awards for this film.

The screenplay was written by Oriol Paulo together with Lara Sendim, co-author of the script the film was shot from.

Critic Roger Moore of Movie Nation gave it 3 out of 4 and called it "A lean, moody and superior horror thriller from Spain".

The film grossed 8,779,609 dollars worldwide, according to the box office figure recorded for the title with IMDb tt1937149.

The Body won two awards at the Paris International Fantastic Film Festival, in addition to its previously announced nominations at the Goya, Forqué, Gaudí and CEC Medals.

The story has inspired four remakes, and an Italian adaptation with the same title hit theaters in 2024.

Amazon added The Body to its video-on-demand lineup in October 2025, more than a decade after its theatrical release.
