Merlí

Merlí Bergeron, played by Francesc Orella, is a philosophy teacher who, after being evicted from his apartment, moves in with his mother, actress Carmina Calduch. There he must take care of his son Bruno, whom his ex-wife has been looking after until now, and learn to live with him. The boy's arrival coincides with the hiring of Merlí at the Àngel Guimerà Institute in Barcelona. His teaching style is unpredictable and unorthodox: he encourages his students to think for themselves, helps those who are struggling even if it's in questionable ways, and brings Socrates, Schopenhauer, Hume and Nietzsche into class to apply their ideas to everyday life. These methods divide opinion among students, teachers and families. The series, created by Héctor Lozano, airs on TV3.
