Synopsis of A Teacher

Claire Wilson is an English teacher in her thirties who has just started working at Westerbrook High School in Austin, Texas. Her marriage to Matt Mitchell, her college boyfriend, leaves her unfulfilled, and her relationship with her brother Nate has grown distant. Craving connection, she befriends Kathryn Sanders, a fellow French teacher. Everything changes when Eric Walker, captain of the football team and a senior in her class, asks her for help preparing for the SAT. Eric seems like a charming guy and, on the surface, everything is in order. The series focuses on the attraction that develops between the two and the decisions Claire makes from that point on. Created by Hannah Fidell, it streams on Hulu and stars Kate Mara and Nick Robinson.

Trivia about A Teacher

Before landing at Hulu, the series was set to air on HBO. In February 2014, it was announced that Hannah Fidell's film would be adapted for television on that network.

The series was filmed in Calgary, Alberta, and principal photography wrapped on October 13, 2019, after starting in August of that same year.

In January 2021, it was reported that the series became the most-watched FX on Hulu title to date, ahead of Mrs. America and Devs.

Entertainment Weekly gave it a B. Kristen Baldwin praised the actors and the chemistry between Mara and Robinson, but criticized the ending.

Collider gave it an A− and praised the performances of Mara and Robinson.

Common Sense Media gave it four out of five stars and highlighted its strong sexual content and language.

Kate Mara and Hannah Fidell invited Nick Robinson to lunch to gauge his interest in the role of Eric; Fidell said she saw in him an innate quality she was looking for in the character.

Kate Mara confirmed there will be no second season, as the miniseries was never planned to continue beyond its initial ten episodes.
