Synopsis of One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill, created by Mark Schwahn and aired on The WB, follows two half-brothers who barely know each other. Set in Tree Hill, a small town in North Carolina, its leads, Lucas and Nathan Scott, are sons of the same father, though their personalities could not be more different. The only thing they share is a love of basketball. Nathan is the captain of the Ravens, the high school team, and comes from a wealthy family. Lucas, who plays on the river court, joins the Ravens thanks to his uncle Keith, a friend of coach Whitey Durham, who believes he can contribute a lot to the team. Nathan sees him as a threat to his spot, and the rivalry between the two brothers starts to drive the story from the very first episode. The main roles go to James Lafferty and Chad Michael Murray.

Trivia about One Tree Hill

Schwahn initially planned to make One Tree Hill as a feature film titled Ravens, the name of the high school basketball team, until he became convinced it would work better as a series.
The series premiere drew 2.5 million viewers and grew to 3.3 million in its second week, making it one of only three shows that gained viewers from its second episode during the 2003-2004 season.
Schwahn named the town Tree Hill because he was listening to U2's album The Joshua Tree while writing the series concept.
The theme song returned in season eight at fan request, and each episode featured a different artist performing it.
Mark Schwahn has revealed that he names each episode after a song that shares something with its theme, such as episode 1x02, which was titled after a song by Dashboard Confessional.
Chad Michael Murray was initially considered for the role of Nathan Scott, but insisted on auditioning for Lucas because he identified with his family experiences; he ultimately landed that character.
Sophia Bush had to audition three times before landing the role of Brooke Davis, which was still unassigned when the pilot was shot and was confirmed after the series got the green light.
Years later, Hilarie Burton explained that she left the series, in part, because of the emotional abuse that she and other female workers said they suffered at the hands of Mark Schwahn.
