Synopsis of The Boat

The training ship Estrella Polar sets sail with its crew and young students on what was supposed to be the greatest adventure of their lives. But a mysterious storm, triggered by the start-up of a particle accelerator, catches them in the middle of the night. When they wake up, they discover that solid land has disappeared and that 99% of the planet's surface is water. The Boat becomes their only refuge and the only way to stay alive. The captain and first officer must take command of a ship that is now their home, while trying to survive isolated in a world whose fate they don't know. Juanjo Artero, Mario Casas, Irene Montalà and Blanca Suárez lead the cast of this Globomedia production, created by Iván Escobar and Álex Pina, which airs on Antena 3.

Trivia about The Boat

The premiere, titled "Un millón de millas," drew nearly 4,770,000 viewers and a 23.4% audience share in Spain.
No episode is shorter than an hour, and some run nearly two hours, which is unusual for free-to-air television.
Antena 3 had already achieved great success with El internado between 2007 and 2010, with a similar mix of drama, mystery and action.
In October 2014, The CW commissioned screenwriter Jennifer Johnson to write the pilot script for an American adaptation of the series.
The third season added Jan Cornet, Héctor Alterio and Leticia Dolera, among other new cast members who joined with its October 2012 premiere.
The island seen in the third season was filmed in a pristine, protected area on the coast of Peñíscola, although on screen it simulated Caribbean landscapes.
Antena 3 decided not to renew the series for a fourth season after viewership declined during the third; the show ended with 43 episodes aired.
Among other honors, the series won a Premio Ondas for Blanca Suárez, a Premio Protagonistas for Juanjo Artero, and two Fotogramas de Plata for Mario Casas and Blanca Suárez.
