She arrived at Madrid's Barajas Airport in 2000 with a suitcase full of doubts and a Fine Arts degree she hadn't fully digested in Bogotá. In Colombia, people already stopped her on the street after she appeared in several TV melodramas, but Madrid demanded a different rhythm. She went straight to Juan Carlos Corazza's studio. She had to unlearn the habits of easy close-ups and start working from the gut.
Her first contracts in Spain were limited to episodic roles in crime dramas. She had to knock on a lot of doors, with a forced neutral accent held back under her tongue.
Nobody handed her a close-up.
For a decade, she took supporting roles in high-rating series such as Hospital Central and El comisario. The local industry quickly typecast her in temperamental characters and light comedies like Los dos lados de la cama. But the real shift came when Olivier Assayas cast her in 2010.
In the French miniseries Carlos, she played a guerrilla fighter with a sharp accent and icy, precise composure. The production premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, won a Golden Globe and left European casting directors taking clear notes.
In 2011, she received confirmation with the TV adaptation of Crematorio. Rafael Chirbes's novel served as the basis for a raw drama about real estate corruption on the Levante coast. For her role as Mónica, she won the Actors Union Award for Best Supporting Actress. That series debunked the myth that Spanish television had room only for family-style drama.
Álex de la Iglesia locked her in a bourgeois parlor in 2017 to shoot Perfect Strangers. The shoot was a claustrophobic stretch of weeks with seven performers squeezed around a dining table, where every blank stare in the background was captured by three crossing cameras.
The box office performance was impressive. The film earned more than 21 million euros at the box office and surpassed three million moviegoers in cinemas.
The call from the Academy of Cinema came a little later. In 2020, she co-starred with Kiti Mánver in El inconveniente, a battle of acting styles in which she knew how to hold back the tone and earned her first Goya nomination as Best Supporting Actress.
And her schedule suddenly shifted gears.
In 2022, she teamed up with her sister Valentina Acosta to found Calité Films, playing on the name of her hometown of Cali and the French word for excellence. So the move behind the camera wasn't an aesthetic whim but a necessity: she couldn't keep waiting for offers from others that never came.
That same year, she took the stage in El perdón, a theatrical creation developed with choreographer Chevi Muraday. The production dealt with the murder of her father, a violent incident that took place in Colombia when the actress was just 16 years old. She performed more than 80 shows across Spain and Colombia without a safety net, blending contemporary dance with harshly raw biographical texts.
Creative independence requires as much financial savvy as dramatic instinct. Through her own production company, she brought the adaptation of The Other Side to the screen in 2024 and led the cast of the feature film La fianza under the direction of Gonzalo Perdomo.
Filming the mystery series Matices in 2025 set an eight-week continuous shooting schedule in the Arribes de Fermoselle area. The footage went straight to post-production studios in Madrid for color grading and final mixing in 4K HDR master format.
