The making of a background actress

Diana Gómez was born in Igualada in 1989, and her first serious contact with acting did not happen at an elite school in Madrid. She started in the hallways of Catalan television when she was barely a teenager. There was no sudden explosion of fame of the kind that burns careers out early. Her path was a buildup of long shooting hours and supporting roles that taught her the craft from the ground up.

In 2007, she made her debut in the series La Via Augusta on TV3. That project, set in Roman Tarraco, was her baptism by fire in a large-scale production. But her role in the film Eloïse in 2009 is what began to define her profile in cinema. In it, she played a young woman discovering her sexuality, and critics praised her ability to convey complex emotions without relying on big dramatic gestures.

Consistency often pays off more than pure talent.

In 2012, she reached national television with El secreto de Puente Viejo. Playing Pía Toledano meant keeping up with a frantic daily-series shooting schedule. Days lasted twelve hours, and scripts were memorized in the car on the way to the set. That stage was essential for building mental and technical agility in front of the camera. In daily series, there is simply no time to repeat takes until they are perfect.

The leap to global streaming platforms

In 2019, she starred in 45 revoluciones for Atresmedia. It was a risky bet on a musical drama set in the sixties that never quite caught on with mainstream audiences. But the industry took notice of her on-screen presence. So when Netflix was looking for a lead to adapt Elísabet Benavent's novels, Diana Gómez was the first name on the list.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2020, Valeria premiered, and the actress's professional life grew on a much larger scale. The role of a writer in crisis in an idealized Madrid connected with a global audience right away. Gómez made a character who can at times be irritating feel deeply human. The series' success allowed several seasons to be filmed and made her one of the most recognizable faces on the platform in Spain.

While filming the writer's romantic misadventures, she joined the cast of La casa de papel in 2019. She played Tatiana, the woman from Berlin, in the flashback scenes that explained the origin of the great heist. It was a supporting role full of mystery that required her to work in a much colder, more calculating register. Her ability to move from romantic comedy to action thriller without losing credibility is what ultimately cemented her position in the industry.

Stage and New Challenges

In 2023, she decided to step away from the camera spotlight and return to the stage. She starred in the play La ciudad at the Teatro de la Abadía, directed by Dan Jemmett. It was a strategic move to regain direct contact with audiences after years of heavy digital exposure. Theater demands a physical control that television sometimes dulls, and Gómez was looking for precisely that technical challenge.

In 2024, she premiered Mano de hierro, a thriller about drug trafficking in the port of Barcelona directed by Lluís Quílez. In this production, she shared the cast with Eduard Fernández and Chino Darín, firmly moving away from the lighthearted girl-next-door image that had brought her international fame. The shoot took place in real port areas of Barcelona to give the story a gritty, realistic texture.

The film industry is a business of endurance.

The fourth and final season of Valeria was filmed over 2024 to close the chapter on her most popular character. The shooting schedule for these final episodes was designed to make the most of the natural light at Spain's coastal locations during the autumn months. The series' technical production used high-resolution cameras to maintain the saturated look that has defined the show since its debut.
