Synopsis of The Head

The Head is a psychological thriller series, a Spanish-Japanese co-production, directed by Jorge Dorado and created by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor. Its first season is set at Polaris VI, an international research base in Antarctica, where a small group of scientists known as the "Winterers" remains through the six-month polar night to keep experiments running. Among them is Annika Lundqvist, a biologist determined to earn recognition in a world dominated by men. When Johan Berg, the summer commander, returns after six months, he finds the base in a devastating state and his wife, Annika, missing. Johan needs to figure out what happened there during his absence and find her.

Trivia about The Head

The Tenerife soundstage, in the Canary Islands, was used for the series' interiors, while the exterior scenes were filmed in Iceland.
In October 2021, Mediapro Studio reported it was preparing a second season set on a container ship, directed by Jorge Dorado.
Filming for the third and final season ran from mid-December to late January 2024.
The second season used a real oil tanker 144 meters long and 22 meters wide, with a capacity of 12,000 tons; the ship sailed from Cádiz to Tenerife, and the crew filmed on board for three weeks.
The series features a cast of seven nationalities, and its dialogue was recorded in English, according to information published during the filming of the first season.
Ran Tellem explained that John Lynch agreed to play Arthur Wilde, and that Katharine O’Donnelly was cast as an actress who was then unknown to the general public.
