It begins in a surf shop in Huntington Beach, California, where a talent scout discovered her folding T-shirts while punk rock blasted from the speakers. Christine Diane Teigen was eighteen and in no hurry to fit the standard measurements of New York runways. That lack of pretension defined her early career.
She appeared on Deal or No Deal, holding briefcase number twelve, and posed for commercial catalogs until Sports Illustrated selected her in 2010 for its special swimsuit issue, a debut the industry hailed as the big breakout of that edition. The Los Angeles press was looking for silent profiles for red carpets, but Teigen used Twitter to blow up the fashion pose with crude jokes and comments about greasy food.
The set had no room for slip-ups.
And that blunt honesty put her on the radar of major American networks without any need for acting school.
In 2015, producer Jimmy Fallon brought her on to co-host Lip Sync Battle alongside LL Cool J on Spike TV. Her role was to hype up the musical duels from a side bar with a drink in hand, but she kept the show going for five seasons, with peaks of more than two million viewers per night.
That on-camera appeal helped her make the leap to commercial animated film. In 2018, she voiced the character Crystal in the comedy Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, a Sony Pictures Animation film that earned more than five hundred million dollars at the international box office.
Three years later, she returned to voice acting with The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021), playing Hailey Posey under the direction of Mike Rianda. Hollywood studios were looking for public figures with millions of followers who could bring whole families into theaters without big advertising budgets.
Nobody saw the sudden stop coming.
In 2019, she launched Huntley Productions to develop her own formats and signed a first-look development deal with Hulu. She wanted to control executive producing rights instead of depending on per-episode contracts.
Under that label, she premiered the comedy mock courtroom show Chrissy’s Court in 2020 on the now-defunct Quibi app, sharing the bench with her mother, Vilailuck Teigen. The platform's financial collapse forced the recordings to move to Roku Channel, where the production completed three seasons settling minor neighborhood disputes.
In May 2021, a series of old social media posts sparked a commercial boycott against her image. The controversy led to her immediate firing from the comedy Never Have I Ever, where she was set to provide the voice-over for one of the standout episodes of season two.
So Teigen stepped away from the media spotlight to rework her culinary projects away from the big corporate glare.
In January 2024, she returned to reality TV with Chrissy & Dave Dine Out for the Freeform channel, a show filmed alongside chef David Chang at restaurants in Los Angeles. The first season consisted of five episodes shot entirely with a crew of twelve digital cameras, with filming days lasting twelve hours straight.
