Fabiana Udenio was born in Buenos Aires in 1964, but her career really took shape on the streets of Rome. She won the Miss Teen Italy pageant at just fourteen, and that title helped her leap straight into classical theater. She played Miranda in a version of The Tempest directed by Giorgio Strehler, a production that toured several European stages.
It was a rigorous academic education that had little to do with her future in Hollywood.
In the mid-eighties, she moved to the United States to make her way in an industry that was beginning to seek international talent. She started with small parts in series such as Full House and Cheers, where her accent and look fit the mold of the sophisticated foreign woman. In 1987 she appeared in Summer School, a teen comedy that grossed more than $35 million at the U.S. box office.
The industry quickly typecast her in roles that exploited her Latin and European heritage in equal measure. But in 1997, the project came along that fixed her face in the public's memory for good. Mike Myers chose her to play Alotta Fagina in the first installment of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.
The shoot lasted only a few weeks.
That character parodied the Bond girls of the sixties with broad, highly physical humor. Udenio took on the role knowing that the character's name was an obvious sexual pun that would stay with her forever. The film became a mass phenomenon, and she became a recurring face at genre film conventions.
After the spy comedy craze, her career shifted toward fast-paced television. She appeared in Mortal Kombat: Conquest and had a long-running role in Jane the Virgin starting in 2015. On the latter, she played Elena Di Nola, a nuanced villain who appeared in seven key episodes of the storyline.
And the offers kept coming.
In 2023, she regained global visibility thanks to FUBAR, an action series in which she shares the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger. She plays Tally Brunner, the protagonist's ex-wife, in a storyline that blends family espionage and sitcom comedy. Netflix confirmed a second season of the show in June 2023 following strong viewership numbers.
The actress has lived in Los Angeles for decades and keeps a low profile, far from the media spotlight. Her divorce from Robert MacLeod was legally finalized in 2009 after five years of marriage. The court settlement included monthly child support of 6,500 dollars for the raising of their only son.
