Giulio Berruti

The Dentist Who Preferred the Spotlight

Giulio Berruti has his dental degree hanging on the wall of his home but has never practiced in a conventional way. Movies caught him before he could open his own clinic in Rome.

In 2005 he made his debut with a small role in Melissa P., directed by Luca Guadagnino. That was just the prelude to what came shortly after.

Italian television gave him the key to mass stardom in 2007 with La figlia di Elisa – Ritorno a Rivombrosa. It was the exact moment his face started showing up in media folders across half of Europe.

And the gamble paid off.

But Berruti didn't want to get stuck in the local circuit of period dramas. So he started looking for projects outside Italy to avoid a career rut.

Conquering the Anglo-Saxon Market

In 2011 he shot Monte Carlo alongside Selena Gomez. It was his first real foray into the Hollywood machine. But the American market is a meat grinder if you don't have a clear plan.

Three years later, in 2014, he starred in Walking on Sunshine. It's a summer musical that won't go down in art history, but it earned millions at the international box office and put him on the radar of major agencies.

Because his physique has always been his best tool and his greatest curse.

The phenomenon of Gabriel’s Inferno in 2020 changed his relationship with digital audiences. Playing Professor Gabriel Emerson required him to sign contracts for several consecutive installments that ran through 2023.

This romance franchise for streaming platforms allowed him to negotiate six-figure salaries per movie.

Producers and political offices

His personal life made political headlines when he began dating Maria Elena Boschi. It's not common to see a romantic leading man at official Italian government events.

That media exposure has helped him fund his own projects.

By 2024, he had become more involved in the technical and production side. He knows the camera won't always be kind to his jawline, and he prefers to keep control of the budgets.

Despite his fame, he still keeps his registration with the Rome Medical Association.

He finished filming his final scenes in Poland during the winter of 2023. The production had a tight budget of 4 million euros.
