Ida Ursin-Holm was born in 1991 with a background that obsessively blended music and drama. Before moving to the big screen, she studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo. That technical foundation allowed her to understand the rhythm of dialogue before worrying about camera position.
Her true breakthrough on the European circuit came with Løvekvinnen. In this film she played Eva, a young woman with a genetic condition that covers her body in hair. She spent hundreds of hours under silicone prosthetics for a role that demanded more expressive eyes than voice. But the technical effort was worth it.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2019, she appeared in Amundsen, the biopic about explorer Roald Amundsen directed by Espen Sandberg. Here she played Kiss Bennett in a freezing and extremely demanding shoot. The film had a budget of 75 million Norwegian kroner, a massive figure by Scandinavian standards of the time.
Television gave her room to explore roles far removed from period drama. Between 2020 and 2023, she was part of the cast of Norsk-ish, a series that dissects the identity of young people in today's Norway. Her character served as a necessary counterpoint for understanding the cultural tensions of an Oslo that is no longer monochrome.
Because Ursin-Holm understands that acting means disappearing.
In 2022, she shot Gulltransporten, known on the international market as Gold Run. It is a World War II drama where historical accuracy was the main requirement. The actress played Nini Haslund Gleditsch, a real-life figure who helped secure the country's gold reserves before the Nazi occupation.
Filming for this Viaplay production stood out for its use of practical effects and real locations in snowy landscapes. As a result, physical demands once again dominated her work schedule that winter.
Her definitive breakthrough in the English-speaking market came in 2023 with The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. In this closing chapter of the Netflix saga she played Astrid, becoming part of a high-level British production machine. The film was shot mainly on location in Hungary under the direction of Edward Bazalgette.
It was her biggest international exposure to date.
But the actress never abandoned her roots in Norwegian musical theater. In 2024, she kept her residence in Oslo, balancing script readings with ongoing vocal training. The distribution deal for her latest war film closed sales in more than twelve European territories after its run on digital platforms.
