Nomadism as a School

Jackson Rathbone was born in Singapore in 1984 and spent his childhood hopping from country to country because of his father's job at an oil company. Indonesia, Norway and England were stops before landing in Texas. There he began to take acting seriously at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

And then the fangs phenomenon arrived.

In 2008 he accepted the role of Jasper Hale in Twilight. It was a decision that brought him global fame but also typecast him for five years in a supporting role with few lines. The franchise grossed more than $3,300 million at the box office and forced him to manage a media exposure he never actively sought.

But Rathbone didn't want to be just a face on a teen movie poster. During the years of filming the saga, he juggled the set with his funk rock band 100 Monkeys. The group recorded albums such as Grape in 2009 and toured small venues in search of the artistic validation that commercial cinema denied him.

The Failure That Changed Everything

He founded his own production company, PatchMo Entertainment, to have control over his projects. In 2010 he tried to step out of his comfort zone with The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film was an absolute critical disaster and nearly sank the aspirations of its young stars.

He continued working in television with guest appearances on Criminal Minds and Finding Carter. But his real interest lay in character roles outside the major studio circuit. In 2017 he took part in Justice, and in 2018 he joined the cast of The Last Ship to play Giorgio Vellek.

The money from blockbusters allowed him to choose strange scripts.

In 2019 he shot The Wall of Mexico, where he explored political satire with touches of magical realism. For Rathbone, film has always been a tool for travel rather than a goal for collecting awards. In 2021 he moved to Austin with his family to escape the constant pressure of Los Angeles.

Maturing behind the camera

In 2022 he starred in Warhunt alongside Mickey Rourke. It was a complicated shoot in the forests of Latvia during global travel restrictions. There he played a soldier in a plot that blended World War II with supernatural elements.

In 2023 he released Condor's Nest, playing a Nazi officer in a revenge story. His career has moved through genre cinema without fear of tight budgets. The film was shot mainly on location in North Carolina and Peru.

For the project The Magic Bracelet in 2023, the actor collaborated with a foundation dedicated to children with chronic illnesses. The technical production of the short film was completed in less than six days of actual shooting.
