Joséphine Jobert was born in Paris in 1985, surrounded by cameras and scripts. Her father is a director of photography, and her mother is a photographer and filmmaker. She is the niece of Marlène Jobert and cousin of Eva Green, a family legacy that could have been a burden but became a natural driving force.
At age twelve she moved to Quebec with her parents to study music and dance. That change of continent helped her build an independent character far from the Parisian industry. There she began taking part in her first audiovisual projects before coming of age.
It was her first real contact with the entertainment industry.
In 2007 she returned to France to star in the youth series Nos années pension. For three seasons she played a student chasing musical success. That production required her to record albums and perform real concerts across the country. But her widespread recognition in the French-speaking market came with Foudre, a series filmed in the landscapes of New Caledonia.
That experience in natural outdoor settings taught her to work under extreme weather conditions. Years later, that physical resilience would become her greatest competitive advantage in making the leap to the English-speaking international market.
In 2015 she joined the cast of Death in Paradise to play Sergeant Florence Cassell. The challenge was huge, since she had to act entirely in English while filming on the island of Guadeloupe. The series averages eight million viewers in the United Kingdom alone and is exported to more than two hundred territories.
Her character became a key cog in the show's machinery over several stages. In 2019 she decided to leave the production for personal and professional reasons. But the production team managed her return in 2021 to wrap up storylines that had been left open after her departure.
And the gamble paid off.
The actress has managed her comings and goings on the BBC series with surgical precision. In 2024 she returned for the thirteenth season to say a final goodbye to her character in a special episode. Jobert has always preferred the freedom of short projects over the security of a lifelong television contract.
After years working under the Caribbean sun, she sought a change of atmosphere and storytelling tone. In 2024 she moved to the Saint Pierre and Miquelon archipelago, near the Canadian coast, to shoot a new police drama. The series is titled Saint-Pierre and marks her return to long-running lead roles.
In this production, she plays Detective Archambault, a Paris investigator who must adapt to a frozen, isolated setting. Filming wrapped in the final quarter of 2024 in sub-zero temperatures. The visual contrast with her earlier work is therefore total.
The cold replaced the tropical sun.
Beyond acting, she has begun developing her side as a content creator and screenwriter alongside her mother. Jobert wants full control over the stories she tells so she doesn't depend exclusively on European casting processes. The first season of Saint-Pierre is set to premiere on 2025 on the CBC network with a total of ten episodes. The production budget per episode exceeds one million dollars.
