Shijimi was born in 1984 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Her entry into the industry had nothing to do with the casting processes of Tokyo's major talent agencies.
In 2004, she debuted in pink film under the direction of Mitsuru Meike. She wasn't chasing the quick fame of teen magazines; she preferred gritty shoots and stories that brushed against the forbidden.
The Japanese erotic film industry has its own rules.
She learned them all in less than a year. She worked on productions where time was money and the budget barely covered the crew's catering.
In those three-day shoots, an actress was forged who didn't need grand monologues to convey weariness. But audiences at international festivals began to notice her for her ability to hold the camera's gaze without blinking.
Her professional relationship with director Hideo Jojo changed her career path. Jojo saw in her a performer who could move between vulnerability and violence with apparent ease.
In 2013, she starred in Be My Baby. It was a project where the raw nature of the story demanded total physical commitment that few actresses of her generation would have accepted.
Risk was her only currency.
Because Shijimi never wanted to be a star locked into exclusive contracts. In 2016, she took part in Aroused by Gymnopedies, directed by Isao Yukisada for the Roman Porno Reboot project from the studio Nikkatsu.
The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. It drew the attention of European critics to a genre that had historically been overlooked by prestige circuits.
Despite her run at top-tier festivals, she chose to stay on the margins. In 2021, she accepted a role in On the Edge of the Abyss, showing that her interest still centered on scripts that explored social marginalization.
But the Japanese market is unforgiving toward actresses over thirty. So Shijimi diversified her appearances, taking part in television productions and experimental short films that didn't always make it into commercial theaters.
She never sought the approval of the major studios.
In 2024, she was part of the cast of The Parades, directed by Michihito Fujii. In this technically demanding production, she played a supporting role that contrasted with the intensity of her early years in independent film.
The film was distributed worldwide and drew a millions-strong audience. Filming lasted six weeks and the post-production crew numbered more than fifty people.
