Simon Rex was living in a cabin in Joshua Tree when he got the call from Sean Baker. Sean Baker cast him as Mikey Saber because he wanted someone with a real mix of charm and desperation. In 2021, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and international critics were left speechless by his performance. He won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead at the 2022 ceremony, and his name returned to the offices that had ignored him for fifteen years.

The New Order of Simon Rex

His comeback success wasn't a one-film fluke. In 2024, he appeared in Blink Twice, the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz, playing a character who uses his good looks to hide something darker. He's no longer the 90s heartthrob but a character actor directors call on to bring authenticity and grit to their casts.

In 2024, he also premiered Greedy People and worked under director Riley Stearns. His schedule filled up with independent projects that value his improvisational skills and his lack of ego on set. Because Simon Rex knows that in this industry, relevance is a loan that can expire at any moment.

He is scheduled to premiere The Trashers in 2025. Principal photography wrapped on schedule, and the film entered post-production on a tight budget for international distribution.
