The Gauls are disgusting!

A small Gallic village is the last place still not under Roman Empire control. Asterix (Christian Clavier) and Obelix (Gérard Depardieu) live there with their neighbors, protected by their druid Getafix, who keeps the villagers in top shape. But Roman officer Lucius Detritus (Roberto Benigni) learns that the village's secret is a magic potion that gives superhuman strength to whoever drinks it. Detritus wants that brew for himself and sees the village as the obstacle standing between him and his goal. The two friends now face a threat they cannot ignore.

Trivia about Asterix and Obelix Take On Caesar

Roberto Benigni turned down the role of Detritus for months because he was filming Life Is Beautiful, and only accepted it once that film had wrapped.
The village set had to be scaled down to 65 by 50 meters, and the houses ended up squeezed together with no space between them.
For the pit scene, around a hundred spiders were used, and the crew coated their teeth in wax. One of them survived the cold, and the film's firefighters adopted it as a mascot.
With an estimated budget of 274,620,000 French francs, roughly equivalent to 41.9 million euros, it was one of the most expensive French film productions of its era.
