A party for fools.

Pierre Brochant, a Parisian publisher, gets together with his friends for dinner every Wednesday. The rule is simple: each guest must bring an idiot, and whoever brings the most spectacular one wins. That night, Brochant is convinced he has found his perfect candidate. He is François Pignon, a government ministry employee who is completely devoted to his matchstick constructions. Pignon accepts the invitation without suspecting what they want him for. Brochant, for his part, prepares the evening with the confidence of someone who controls every detail. Francis Veber wrote and directed the film, and Jacques Villeret and Thierry Lhermitte lead the cast.

Trivia about The Dinner Game

With more than 9 million tickets sold, it was the second most-watched movie in France in 1998, behind only Titanic.
Before reaching the big screen, the stage play it is based on was performed more than 900 times in Paris theaters.
The name François Pignon shows up again in other Veber films: it was the name of the character played by Jacques Brel in L'Emmerdeur, from 1973, and also the name of Pierre Richard's character in Les Compères.
In addition to Vladimir Cosma's music, the film features the song "Le temps ne fait rien à l'affaire" by Georges Brassens, released in 1961.
