The First Slam Dunk

The big-screen adaptation of the historic and hugely successful manga published in the 1990s that took Japan by storm with basketball as its flagship. After the loss of his father and his older brother, a basketball star, Ryota Miyagi is determined to fulfill his brother's dream of becoming a professional basketball player. But to do so, his team must defeat the reigning champion: Sannoh. Although the manga follows the story of Hanamichi Sakuragi, this adaptation focuses on Ryota Miyagi, who was always portrayed as a troubled kid. Throughout the film, scenes of the game against Sannoh are interspersed with memories and the hard moments Ryota went through, whether from the deaths of his close relatives or from how he feels about the way his mother treats him.
