The great movie of the year.

A young woman has just given birth to a baby she cannot raise. Heartbroken, she leaves the infant in a luxurious car belonging to a wealthy family, along with a note asking someone to take care of him. But two thieves steal the car without realizing the baby is inside and abandon it on a corner in a slum. There, a tramp finds the child and suddenly finds himself responsible for a baby. Charles Chaplin wrote, produced, directed and starred in this silent comedy-drama, playing the tramp alongside Jackie Coogan, who plays the little boy.

Trivia about The Kid

The film turned Jackie Coogan, then a vaudeville performer, into the first major child star of the movies.
After Chaplin’s first wife filed for divorce, he and his collaborators smuggled the negative out of Salt Lake City and edited it at the Hotel Utah.
Chaplin cut scenes he considered too sentimental for modern audiences and composed a new score for the film’s re-release.
In 2016, the Dallas Chamber Symphony commissioned an original score from composer Craig Safan, which premiered at a concert with a screening on February 21, 2017.
