The season opens with a devastating emergency that hits Los Angeles hard. As lava spreads across the city, the firefighters of Station 118 work to evacuate residents trapped inside. Athena Grant, an LAPD detective, is still searching for her place as a detective and relies on her instincts to solve a mysterious case. When a tunnel collapses, she is trapped underground and must find a way out. Maddie faces an impossible decision and, together with the 118, rushes to divert a river of lava before it wipes out a crowded hospital. May, meanwhile, tries to find confidence in a new job.
