Arthur Conti walked into the office of Tim Burton quietly but with the confidence of someone who has known the craft since birth. In 2024, he played Jeremy in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and that opportunity changed his standing in the industry overnight. The casting process was quick (just a couple of Zoom calls), and the director didn't need to see much more before handing him the keys to one of the key characters of the sequel.
Conti grew up in a home where acting was no exotic choice. He is the son of comedian Nina Conti and actor Andrew Stanway, and the grandson of veteran actor Tom Conti. That family background taught him early on that fame is a by-product of the work, not an end in itself.
There was no Plan B.
Before breaking into major productions, he trained at the National Youth Theatre in London. There he learned to control his body and silence before words. For Conti, acting is less about mechanically delivering lines and more about reacting to what is happening in front of him.
His first big break on television came in 2022 with a small role in House of the Dragon. He played a court page in the episode The Heirs of the Dragon, and although his screen time was brief, it taught him the logistics of massive-scale shoots. That experience at Leavesden Studios was the dress rehearsal for what came next.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2024, he shared the set with Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder under Burton's direction. Playing Jeremy required a tricky balance between teenage charisma and a latent darkness that had to surface little by little. Conti built the character through restraint. What drew the most attention from critics, however, was his ability to not get overshadowed by the visual effects or by the production's heavy makeup.
Unlike many actors of his generation, Conti keeps a low profile when it comes to his private life. He prefers that his career speak for itself through his professional choices. In 2024, he said in several interviews that his greatest fear is not failure but creative stagnation.
He looks for projects that push him out of his comfort zone.
During the filming of the Beetlejuice sequel in 2024, the actor spent his downtime watching the practical effects technicians at work. He is interested in film as a complete machine. So it's no surprise that his role models are actors who prioritize theater and independent film over endless franchises.
His theater training remains the anchor that keeps him grounded. In London he took part in experimental stage productions where improvisation was the norm. That mental agility helped him adapt to the constant script changes Burton introduced during the shoot in Vermont.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice earned $110 million in its opening weekend in the United States.
