Audrey Fleurot isn't afraid of looking ridiculous or of extreme seriousness.
She studied at the Lyon Conservatory and then at the Paris one, because her real goal was theater. She wasn't chasing TV fame. But the screen found her in 2005 when she accepted the role of the Lady of the Lake in the series Kaamelott. It was a supporting role that ended up lasting years and gave her her first real experience in front of the camera.
The name Joséphine Karlsson followed the actress for fifteen years. In Engrenages, she played an amoral and ambitious lawyer who broke the mold of French fiction. It was a Canal+ bet that worked in half the world. Fleurot gave the character a mechanical coldness that contrasted with her red hair.
And audiences became obsessed with her.
In 2011, the phenomenon of Intouchables arrived. Although her role as Magalie was a supporting one, her physical presence and dry retort to Omar Sy gave her immediate international visibility. The film grossed 426 million dollars worldwide. That success allowed her to choose projects with more freedom in an industry that often typecasts actresses by their looks.
But the theater remained her refuge. In 2014, she starred in Un dîner d'adieu at the Théâtre Edouard VII. For her, acting doesn't depend on the size of the screen but on the power of the text and the immediate response of the audience.
Many people thought Fleurot was only good for dramatic roles or femme fatales. In 2021 she broke that perception with HPI. Her character, Morgane Alvaro, is a cleaning woman with an IQ of 160 who helps the police. She's eccentric, dresses in loud clothes and doesn't respect anyone's authority.
It was the biggest hit on French television in fifteen years.
The series reached a 45% audience share in France during its first season. Fleurot negotiated a salary that made her the best-paid actress on French television in 2022. But she didn't stop at acting. She founded her own production company, Habanita, to control scripts and the development of her projects, because she wanted to avoid letting others make decisions for her.
In 2023 she starred in Infiltré(e), a chemical thriller about drug trafficking. Here she returned to pure drama with a chemist who poses as a dealer to save her son. The production had a budget of €8 million for its six episodes. Much of the filming took place in Marseille and Nancy during the fall of 2022.
The fourth season of HPI was shot in 2024 on a production schedule of 110 days.
