Cassandra Scerbo was born in Long Island in 1990 and by the time she turned ten, she already knew what a film set was like.
In 2006, she joined the musical group Slumber Party Girls, and her contract with Geffen Records served as a springboard for what came next. Music was only the first step.
Her first big breakthrough came in 2007 with Bring It On: In It to Win It. She played Brooke and became part of a franchise that, although released directly to home video, brought in millions in international sales.
It was the start of an unstoppable streak.
Between 2009 and 2012, her life revolved around the uneven bars. On the series Make It or Break It, she brought Lauren Tanner to life, a character viewers loved to hate for her complexity and constant betrayals.
That ABC Family production required real physical training so that the gymnastics scenes would look believable. Scerbo did not use stunt doubles for the most basic moves, and that gave her a authenticity that critics praised throughout the show's three seasons.
But the strangest phenomenon of her career came in 2013 with Sharknado. What began as a B-movie for the Syfy channel became a global social event that took over social media.
Scerbo played Nova Clarke and reprised the role in several sequels through 2018. Even though the script was deliberately absurd, she chose to play the role with complete seriousness.
And while sharks were falling from the sky, she was looking for other angles in the film industry. In 2020, she appeared in The Last Exorcist and began getting involved in decision-making behind the camera.
Acting was no longer her only driving force.
Her work off set also defines her professional profile. She chairs the Boo2Bullying organization and devotes much of her time to funding educational programs in schools across the United States. She balances this with genre film shoots such as The Girl in the Window in 2024.
In 2024, she took part in the feature film The Legend of the White Dragon. The production had an estimated budget of five million dollars, funded partly through a micro-patronage campaign after the death of its original lead actor.
