Emily Fuxler arrived in Los Angeles with a suitcase full of Swedish expectations and a last name that didn't yet carry weight in the industry. Before becoming Emily Baldoni, she spent years taking one episodic role after another in fast-paced series. CSI: Miami and How I Met Your Mother appear on her profile as obligatory stops to pay the rent.
But 2013 changed the game.
James Ward Byrkit invited her to take part in an experimental dinner with no written script. The actors received individual notes about their characters only each night. Coherence was shot in just five days at the director's home. That exercise in pure improvisation about quantum physics and doubled timelines won unanimous applause at the Sitges Film Festival without spending a single dollar on special effects.
And the gamble paid off.
The film remains a cult favorite among fans of mind-bending science fiction today. Emily carries the emotional weight of the story as her character unravels at the prospect of infinite versions of herself. It was the moment the industry stopped seeing her as just a pretty face and began to recognize that she could lead high-tension psychological projects.
In 2014, she married Justin Baldoni. Her career took a different direction when they began developing projects through their own company. She did not seek the spotlight at all costs. She preferred to get involved in stories with a deep social weight.
In 2019, she took part in Five Feet Apart. The medical drama grossed more than $90 million at theaters worldwide. Emily played Julie, but her real work was overseeing the script's sensitivity regarding cystic fibrosis.
And she never looked back.
Many Swedish actors get trapped in the cliché of the European villain or the victim in a Nordic thriller. She broke that pattern by joining the creative fabric of Wayfarer Studios. Her criteria for selecting stories tend to prioritize human impact over simple commercial entertainment.
In 2020, she joined the cast of Clouds. The film premiered directly on digital platforms due to the global situation of movie theaters at the time. The project told the story of Zach Sobiech and required a level of restrained performance that Emily handled with composure.
But her return to major studio productions came a little later.
In 2024, she played Amber in the film adaptation of It Ends with Us. The movie had an estimated production budget of $25 million. Filming was significantly interrupted during the 2023 writers' strike. The film's final cut was locked at a running time of 130 minutes after several test screenings with audiences in New Jersey.
