Louisiana Ambition on the Streets of New York

Faith Ford arrived in New York at seventeen with a suitcase full of Southern determination. She left her hometown of Alexandria behind to make a living as a commercial model. But her real goal was acting, and she soon landed her first role on the soap opera Another World in 1983.

That debut opened the doors of the television industry wide open.

In 1983, she played Julia Shearer and learned the ropes of daily acting through marathon workdays. It was a survival school before she made the definitive leap into sitcoms. Ford had a special instinct for comedic timing that few casting directors overlooked.

Building an Archetype in Primetime

In 1988, she landed the role that would define her professional career for a full decade. On paper, Corky Sherwood was the typical blonde, somewhat naive reporter on the fictional news show Murphy Brown. Ford gave her a humanity that nobody expected from the original scripts.

She earned five consecutive Emmy Award nominations for this role. Her ability to hold her own against a powerhouse like Candice Bergen proved how solid her talent was. Corky Sherwood stayed on the air for 247 episodes until the series ended in 1998.

Audiences fell in love with her instantly.

After the end of her most famous run, she looked for new challenges on the big screen. In 2005, she appeared in the film The Pacifier alongside Vin Diesel. It was a Disney production that grossed nearly $200 million at the worldwide box office and let her explore a more family-friendly range.

Comedy Chemistry with Kelly Ripa

But television remained her natural playing field. Between 2003 and 2006, she starred in Hope & Faith alongside Kelly Ripa. The series played on the contrast between two sisters with opposite lives and remained a pillar of ABC for three full seasons.

Faith Ford was never just a pretty face.

In 2018, CBS decided to revive Murphy Brown for a special 13-episode season. Ford returned to her original role with the same energy she had in the late 1980s. The cast reunion was used to update her character's conflicts for a media landscape dominated by social media.

In 2023, she appeared in the Netflix film We Have a Ghost. She played Barbara Schultz under director Christopher Landon. It was a project that put her in the catalog of digital platforms, with an estimated production budget of $75 million.

Ford lives in Louisiana and runs personal projects away from the Hollywood spotlight. In 2004, she published her own cookbook, titled Cooking with Faith. The book has 256 pages and focuses on traditional recipes from the American South.
