Gabrielle Haugh was born in Sacramento in 1996 and quickly realized that California is a state with two parallel realities. The young woman decided the capital was too small for her and headed to Los Angeles to study theater and communications. But before film cameras came photo shoots for brands such as Forever 21.
In 2016 she landed her first major role in the feature film The Midnight Man. She shared the screen with Lin Shaye and Robert Englund, two heavyweights of horror who marked her baptism by fire in the industry. It was a tough shoot in Canada, where Haugh had to carry the dramatic weight of a suffocating plot.
That changed the rules of the game.
After that first foray came projects that demanded a very different physical presence. In 2017 she appeared in The Institute, a film co-directed by James Franco in which Haugh played a patient in a 19th-century psychiatric hospital. Critics praised her ability to convey fragility without falling into the histrionics typical of the genre.
Genre cinema is merciless.
In 2017, she starred in Jeepers Creepers 3 under considerable media pressure over the controversies surrounding the franchise. She played Addison Brandon and had to deal with a shoot of just 26 days in Louisiana. The film earned more than 4 million dollars in its limited U.S. release despite mixed reviews.
But the real change of pace came with daytime television. That same year she joined the cast of Days of Our Lives to play Jade Michaels. Shooting a daily soap means memorizing up to 30 script pages a day, a discipline Haugh has cited in several interviews as her true acting school.
And the gamble paid off.
Her time in television brought her a visibility that independent film had denied her. However, she decided to leave the series after 34 episodes to pursue projects that would not tie her to a long-term contract. She wanted to return to film and to stories with a satisfying ending.
In 2019, she starred in The 27 Club, a film that explored the myths surrounding music stars who died at that age. It was a low-budget project in which Haugh proved she could carry a complex psychological narrative. In Los Angeles, she learned that to survive in the industry you have to balance commercial films with independent art-house work.
Because the American market is merciless toward those who stand still.
In 2022, she appeared in The Art of Passion, a romantic thriller made for television that marked a sharp departure from her horror roots. Haugh played a young artist caught in a web of obsession. The production was shot entirely on location in Florida during the month of May.
In 2023, she joined the cast of Monsters of California, Tom DeLonge's directorial debut. The film blends science fiction and teen comedy, a genre mix Haugh had not explored until then. The shoot had an estimated budget of 5 million dollars and drew on the look of 1980s adventure films. The crew used Arri Alexa cameras to achieve a specific visual texture in the night scenes.
