Gavin Casalegno didn't need to wait until adulthood to understand how a film set works. By age four, he was already posing for department store catalogs in his native Texas. But his true ambition was far from still photography and fashion-kid flashbulbs.

He grew up under strict religious discipline that shaped his character before he jumped to national television. That family foundation was key to handling the pressure of auditions in an industry that often chews up young actors.

His first big break in film came in 2014 with the movie Noah. Playing the younger version of Shem under Darren Aronofsky's direction was a trial by fire technically.

There, he learned that big-budget film requires patience and a physical endurance that modeling does not demand. Sharing credits with names like Russell Crowe and Anthony Hopkins gave him a realistic view of the craft.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2015, he appeared in the series The Vampire Diaries playing the young version of Damon Salvatore. It was a brief role, lasting just one episode, but it helped Los Angeles casting directors add his name to their databases.

He spent several years landing supporting roles in low-budget productions. In 2020, he shot the horror film The Unhealer, where he explored a much darker register than usual.

The Phenomenon of a Billion Views

The industry rediscovered him in 2022 thanks to the series The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video. His role as Jeremiah Fisher brought him international recognition within weeks.

The first season was made on a tight budget and was mostly shot in Wilmington. But its impact on social media far exceeded the studio marketing department's expectations.

Seven million new followers joined his official profile in less than a month after the premiere.

Casalegno manages his career with an unusual coolness for his age. In 2023, he decided to shoot the second installment of his flagship series while keeping up a training routine like a professional athlete.

Because his physique is his main work tool.

Off the film sets, he practices volleyball and soccer competitively. This sport helps him endure work days that sometimes exceed fourteen hours a day on location.

In 2024, filming for the series' third season was scheduled to take advantage of the natural summer light in North Carolina. Shooting these new episodes stretched over five months, with a production cost per episode significantly higher than in its early days.
