Geum Sae-rok

From Extra Work to Hand-to-Hand Combat

Geum Sae-rok started out pounding the streets of Seoul while finishing his studies at the Institute of Arts. His first real contact with a professional camera came in 2015 with a tiny role in The Silenced. There were no red carpets or calls from major agents during those first months of constant auditions.

Shot scenes that ended up on the editing room floor.

In 2016, she appeared in The Last Princess and The Age of Shadows. They were brief appearances, but they taught her how a high-budget set works in the Korean film industry. And so she kept going until television decided her face fit prime-time viewing.

The Detective Who Broke the Mold

Her luck changed in 2019 thanks to The Fiery Priest. She played Seo Seung-ah, a rookie detective who wasn't afraid to throw a kick or get her uniform dirty. She won Best New Actress at the SBS Drama Awards that year. But the most important thing was that audiences stopped seeing her as a supporting face.

That physical energy led her straight to Class of Lies, also in 2019. This time the tone was different, since she played a gym teacher at a high school full of shady secrets. The script demanded a mix of innocence and toughness she had not explored until then.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2021, she took on the role in Youth of May. The series is set around the Gwangju Uprising of 1980, and her character is a wealthy family-law student fighting for civil rights. It was a restrained performance that departed from the comedy of her previous work. Historical drama demands a control that Geum Sae-rok handled without blinking.

The Weight of Silence

In late 2022, she starred in The Interest of Love. The script treated romance like a cold, bank-style transaction full of half-truths. She played Park Mi-gyeong, a woman with all the money in the world who is unable to buy anyone's affection.

Many viewers criticized her character's attitude on online forums.

In 2023, she moved to short-form content with Soundtrack #2 for a streaming platform. It was a story of musical reunions that required building chemistry at close range with a small cast. The shoot was fast and focused on everyday dialogue rather than major plot twists.

By 2024, Geum Sae-rok had signed on as the lead in Iron Family. In this project, she plays Lee Da-rim, a young woman coping with progressive vision loss while her family runs a laundry business. The KBS2 production closed a contract for 36 episodes for national broadcast.
