Giancarlo Commare was born in Castelvetrano in 1991 and spent his teenage years obsessed with dance. He wasn't thinking about the spotlight in Rome but about the technical movement of his feet on the floor. Then acting crossed his path when he decided that Sicily was too small for his ambitions as a performer.
He moved to the Italian capital to study at Ennio Coltorti's theater school.
His first years in the city were an exercise in endurance. Before acting, he took whatever work he could find while going through one audition after another, which didn't always lead to a contract. In Rome's industry, nobody hands you anything without a famous last name to open doors in advance.
In 2014, he landed a small part in Che Dio ci aiuti. It was a low-key debut that taught him how a professional film set worked outside the protection of acting classes. That experience shaped his later work pace, built on quiet observation and British-style punctuality.
In 2018, he got the call to join Skam Italia. Playing Edoardo Incanti forced him to handle a media exposure that had been foreign to him until then. And he did it without pretense. The show worked because the cast understood the silences of a generation that doesn't always know what to say in front of a camera.
And the risk paid off.
The Italian industry often pigeonholes young actors into flat, one-note roles. In 2021, he broke that pattern with Maschile Singolare (directed by Matteo Pilati and Alessandro Guida). His performance as Antonio was a real challenge, given the emotional weight and the raw intensity of some scenes. That was the moment he stopped being a promising newcomer in the eyes of the most demanding casting directors.
She worked on Il paradiso delle signore between 2019 and 2021, playing Rocco Amato. That stint in daily fiction gave her the discipline to shoot at a frantic pace. Theater and author-driven film are rewarding, but broadcast television is what trains the muscle of technical memory.
In 2022, he took on the role of Manuel Bortuzzo in the TV movie Rinascere. Playing a swimmer who loses the use of his legs after a shooting required an exhausting physical preparation. He spent weeks training in the water and talking with the real athlete to avoid the cheap sentimentality that tends to ruin these biopics.
Sobriety became his best tool.
In 2024, he returned to the role of Antonio in the sequel Maschile Plurale. The project explored the protagonist's maturity and how he deals with grief after losing his emotional bonds. But Commare was no longer the same actor he had been three years earlier, and his presence on screen felt far more solid.
In 2025, his participation in L'Abbaglio under the direction of Roberto Andò was announced. Filming took place in various locations across Sicily and marked his professional return to the island where it all began. The production had an estimated budget of six million euros.
