Gökhan Alkan wasn't born with a script under his arm or spent his teenage years at acting schools. His early training points to a far more rigid and technical world. He studied Automotive Engineering at Kocaeli University and later earned a diploma in Foreign Trade and Marketing at Anadolu.
Engineering ended up in a drawer.
The change of course was not a last-minute whim, since theater had always been present in a latent way. While analyzing engines, Alkan decided his place was at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. There he spent years refining a technique that would allow him to debut on stage before making the definitive leap to television cameras in 2011.
His first break came with a brief role in Muhteşem Yüzyıl. It was a small appearance, but enough to understand how the Turkish industry worked from the inside. The real breakthrough, however, didn't come until 2014, when the actor took on the role of Tarık in the series Kocamın Ailesi.
In 2016, he starred in Seviyor Sevmiyor, and his name began to gain serious traction beyond the borders of Istanbul. The chemistry with his co-stars and his ability to keep the pace of the romantic comedy earned him a special recognition at the APAN Star Awards in South Korea. That award was an international turning point that few actors of his generation had achieved up to that point.
And the risk was worth it.
Alkan has a particular obsession with controlling his body language. In 2017, he played Ali Asaf Denizoğlu in Kalp Atışı, and that production put him at the forefront of the industry. The surgeon character demanded a restraint that Alkan worked on meticulously, avoiding the dramatic excesses common in the genre.
But it hasn't been a straight path of easy successes. The actor has mentioned on several occasions that he has Asperger's syndrome and that he uses this condition to focus obsessively on his characters. This discipline allows him to memorize texts with mathematical precision and design work routines that leave nothing to chance during filming days.
In 2020, he joined the cast of Yasak Elma to play Kerem Ali. Joining a series that was already a mass phenomenon posed a major technical adaptation challenge. He did so without disrupting the dynamics of a cast that had worked together for years under constant media pressure.
Filming Kalp Yarası in 2021 was an exhausting physical and emotional effort on the locations in Antakya. Alkan played Ferit Sancakzade and had to learn to ride horses professionally to lend authenticity to the countryside scenes. The series stayed on air thanks to extreme viewer loyalty to its central male character.
Then the phone stopped ringing for a short while.
In 2023, he took on the role of Ateş Akça in Kraliçe, an adaptation of the American series Queen Sugar. The project aimed for a darker, more adult tone, but audience reaction was mixed. After this stint on broadcast television, Alkan chose projects with a different and more controlled production structure.
In 2024, he appeared in the film Kül, distributed by Netflix. The movie was directed by Erdem Tepegöz on a budget that forced all of its scenes to be concentrated into a schedule of just five weeks of intensive work.
