Graham Patrick Martin landed in Los Angeles with the lessons learned on New York stages. Before turning fifteen, he already knew what it was like to work under the pressure of national television cameras.
Born in Louisiana in 1991, this actor trained at the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan. There he honed a craft that took him from the stage to millions of viewers' living rooms in 2007 with the comedy The Bill Engvall Show.
And she did it without making a fuss.
On that series for the TBS network, he shared the script with an unknown Jennifer Lawrence. Martin played Trent Pearson over thirty episodes and three seasons that taught him the rhythm of the California industry.
In 2010, Martin joined the cast of Two and a Half Men. For two years he played Eldridge McElroy, Jake Harper's troublemaking friend, during a peak-ratings moment for Chuck Lorre's series.
But the real drama was yet to come.
In 2012, the actor received the call that would change his career. James Duff cast him as Rusty Beck in the finale of The Closer, a character who would later become the emotional core of Major Crimes.
Over 105 episodes Martin inhabited the role of a homeless teenager who is eventually adopted by Captain Sharon Raydor. The role demanded a dramatic weight he had not explored in his earlier work in sitcoms.
Critics praised his ability to handle complex themes such as identity and youth abandonment. Martin used his platform to actively work with Covenant House, an organization that helps homeless young people across the United States.
In 2018 the series came to an end after six seasons of consistent success on cable television. The actor closed that chapter with a solid fan base and the respect of casting directors across the industry.
In 2019, Martin looked for projects beyond procedural television. He joined the cast of the miniseries Catch-22, a George Clooney production for Hulu based on Joseph Heller's novel.
He played Bill Funt on a shoot that moved to locations in Sardinia, Italy. Working under Clooney and Grant Heslov changed how he understood large international productions.
Directing was the logical next step.
In 2021, he wrote and directed the short film The Letter. The piece screened on the independent festival circuit and showed that his years on film sets had been about more than memorizing other people's lines.
In 2021, he also took part in the Canadian drama All My Puny Sorrows, an adaptation of Miriam Toews' novel. He shared scenes with Sarah Gadon and Alison Pill in a story that explored suicide and broken family bonds.
In 2023, he joined the cast of the movie The Line alongside Alex Wolff and John Malkovich. The production focused on hazing rituals and toxicity within American college fraternities, with an estimated budget of $5 million.
