Griselda Siciliani came to acting out of pure physical exhaustion. She studied contemporary dance from the age of ten in Buenos Aires and learned to tell stories with her shoulder blades before telling them with her mouth. That physical discipline ended up governing every one of her gestures in front of the camera.
Her breakout on Argentine television was no lucky street casting. In 2005, Adrián Suar saw her on stage in Buenos Aires' alternative theater scene and gave her a supporting role in Sin código. That debut earned her the Martín Fierro Award for Breakthrough Artist.
The body always leads.
For a decade, Argentine free-to-air television was her daily workshop. She went from mass-audience dramas such as Sos mi vida in 2006 to the children's phenomenon Patito feo between 2007 and 2008. But the real test came when she had to carry the weight of heavy, dramatic adult storylines.
In 2010, she joined the lead ensemble of Para vestir santos, a miniseries that won awards and drew millions of viewers. Four years later, she won her lead-acting statuette for Farsantes. Siciliani devoured scripts like an acrobat, measuring her silences so the comedy wouldn't feel like a rehearsed trick.
In 2016, she took on the most demanding technical challenge of her television career with Educando a Nina. She shot twelve hours a day playing twin sisters from opposite social classes, changing costumes and accents five times per shoot day.
And the move paid off perfectly.
The show averaged more than 16 ratings points and wrapped its run at the Gran Rex theater in front of thousands of viewers.
Nobody saw it coming in Madrid.
In 2020, Cesc Gay decided she should co-star in Sentimental, the film adaptation of his play Los vecinos de arriba. Siciliani shared close-up shots for ninety minutes with Javier Cámara, Belén Cuesta and Alberto San Juan in a single apartment.
That cinematic dinner opened the doors of the Spanish industry for her. In 2021, she earned a Goya Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Actress, an unusual feat for a performer over forty with a massive career behind her in South America.
So Alejandro González Iñárritu took note. In 2022, the Mexican director cast her as Lucía in Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, a massively budgeted production distributed by Netflix. Siciliani built a restrained, down-to-earth character amid the film's dizzying visual delirium.
Because the secret of her method lies in never competing with the director's artifice.
In 2024, Siciliani starred in the series Envidiosa, directed by Gabriel Medina and written by Carolina Aguirre. The role of Victoria Mori, a nearly forty-year-old woman on the verge of a breakdown over being single and other people's comparisons, sparked heated debate on social media and in the press.
The series quickly climbed to third place globally among non-English-language productions on Netflix, accumulating millions of viewing hours in just ten days. Its portrayal avoided easy pity and embraced ridicule head-on.
In 2026, Álex de la Iglesia signed her alongside Adrián Suar for the film adaptation of the stage play Felicidades. For the shoot in Buenos Aires, the production schedule set seven weeks of filming on closed sets with twelve-hour days and a crew of sixty.
