Halle Bailey and her sister Chloe uploaded a version of Pretty Hurts to the internet in 2013. They never expected Beyoncé herself to see the video and sign them to her record label with a million-dollar, six-album contract.
Her family's living room in Georgia quickly became too small within a matter of months.
His musical training under Parkwood Entertainment shaped his technical discipline. In 2016, they appeared on the visual album Lemonade and soon after opened for the Texan singer's European tour. But Halle wanted more than to be a protégé of a global star.
Her first real break in acting came with the series Grown-ish in 2018. She played Sky Forster for four seasons and learned there how to handle the pace of a fast-moving television production. Because television demands an immediacy that the recording studio doesn't know.
Bailey's casting to star in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid sparked heated debate on social media during 2019. She chose to ignore her phone notifications and focused on physical training for the flying and swimming scenes. Before filming, she spent months strengthening her core to handle the harnesses at Pinewood Studios.
Filming in London during 2021 required 13-hour days under lights that simulated underwater refraction. The film grossed 569 million dollars at the global box office following its May 2023 release. So the online debate ended up fading in the face of the weight of the financial data.
Critics were won over by her vocal ability, but the post-production process was exhausting.
In late 2023, she played the young version of Nettie in the new film adaptation of The Color Purple. The project was produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, and Bailey worked alongside Fantasia Barrino. Filming in Georgia during 2022 allowed her to return to her geographic roots while exploring a much rawer, more down-to-earth dramatic range.
Her career didn't stop at major studio films. In August 2023, she released Angel, her first solo single, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. The song confirmed that her sound aimed to blend classic soul with cutting-edge orchestral pop.
During 2024, her participation was confirmed in the musical film by Pharrell Williams and Michel Gondry set in Virginia Beach. It's a project that aims to capture the aesthetic of the 1970s and moves the actress away from the heavy digital effects of her previous work. But her technical priority remains absolute control over her publishing rights.
And her bet on independence paid off.
The production budget for her first major lead success exceeded $250 million, not counting global marketing spend. In 2025, the industry expects the premiere of The Line, a drama where she shares the screen with Alex Wolff and which has already made the rounds on the independent festival circuit. The cost per shooting day on this film was only a fraction of her contracts with Disney.
