Julie Gonzalo was born in Argentina and moved to Miami when she was eight years old. At that 1989, she couldn't say a single sentence in the local language, but her ability to observe her surroundings made things easier. She started out as a commercial model before deciding that her place was in front of the cameras in Los Angeles.
In 2003, she landed her first major role in the film Freaky Friday alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. The Disney production performed very well at the global box office and opened doors for her in teen films. It was a fast-paced period in which she went on to take on several big-budget commercial projects.
In 2004, she shot A Cinderella Story and Christmas with the Kranks almost back to back. She worked with actors such as Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis in less than twelve months. But the film industry is often fickle with young actresses, and high school villain roles started to repeat too often on her desk.
Television was her main refuge.
In 2006, she joined the cast of Veronica Mars to play Parker Lee during the third season. The show had a very active fanbase and gave her a different kind of visibility beyond the usual romantic comedies. Her move toward more mature characters was a natural result of her work on television.
In 2008, she took on the role of Maggie Dekker in the ABC series Eli Stone. That performance earned her an ALMA Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It was a key moment because the industry recognized her ability to carry complex storylines (beyond her physical image) in a prime-time production.
In 2012, one of her most ambitious projects arrived with the return of the iconic series Dallas. She played Pamela Rebecca Barnes during the three seasons the revival ran on TNT. The shoot took place in Texas and allowed her to explore a much darker and more ambitious range than in her early days.
The audience responded with millions of viewers.
But after the series was canceled in 2014, she had to look for new opportunities in a market that was changing due to the rise of streaming. She appeared in one-off episodes of shows such as Castle and Grey’s Anatomy while she chose her next long-term step. She never stopped working because her work ethic is ironclad.
In 2019, she joined the DC Comics universe through the series Supergirl. She played Andrea Rojas (known as Acrata) and stayed with the project until the end of production in 2021. It was a physically and technically demanding shoot because of the number of visual effects her character required.
In 2022, she starred in and produced the TV movie Cut, Color, Murder for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. This network has become a recurring part of her professional schedule over the last decade. There she met her partner Chris McNally while filming The Sweetest Heart a few years earlier.
In 2024, she returned to the medical world with a special appearance in season twenty of Grey’s Anatomy. She still lives in the United States and manages her career between acting and executive producing independent projects. Her daughter was born in mid-2022, and that changed her priorities when it came to accepting long shoots away from home.
The actress has more than forty professional credits on her production profile since her debut.
