Keita Machida wanted to fly commercial airplanes. He studied at the Ishikawa Aviation School with a firm goal of soaring through the skies, but a knee injury forced him back to solid ground. That physical setback eventually led him to an audition in Tokyo, where his athletic presence outweighed his lack of prior acting experience.

That streaming hit crossed borders without warning.

But the actor didn't get stuck in romance. In 2020, he also appeared in Alice in Borderland for Netflix, trading the office suit for bleached hair and physical violence. It was a short but necessary role to move away from the flawless leading-man image that the market tends to impose on actors with his look.

His athletic background always shows up in his movements in front of the camera. In 2021, he took on the challenge of playing Toshizo Hijikata in the historical drama Seitendowokere. The samurai role demands an almost religious respect for protocol and sword handling. Machida spent months perfecting the posture required to wear traditional hakama.

Period shoots demand hours of preparation to master the movement of kimono sleeves and ancient calligraphy.
