Kevin Crowley

The Quiet Power of a Premium Supporting Actor

Kevin Crowley is not the kind of actor who stops traffic on Broadway. He is more the face that the average moviegoer knows they've seen before but can't quite place. That is precisely his greatest professional achievement.

He is a film workhorse.

In 1993 he took part in The Fugitive, playing a state trooper. That shoot was his entry into the major leagues of the American film industry. But Crowley decided his base of operations would not be in Los Angeles or in the major power centers of the West Coast.

He chose to stay in Cincinnati. There, he founded the Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative to give new writers a voice and keep local theater alive. Because Crowley understands that film is a business of resilience, not just red carpets.

Cincinnati's Anchor

In 2015 he appeared in Carol under the direction of Todd Haynes. It was a brief but essential role for the film's atmosphere. Four years later, in 2019, he reunited with Haynes for Dark Waters, playing a DuPont plant official.

And the gamble paid off.

His role in Stranger Things during 2016 brought him global visibility he didn't seek. He played a government agent in a production that racked up millions of hours of viewing around the world. Yet he returned to his theater in Ohio once his scenes wrapped (a space where ego matters less than the text).

In 2017, he worked on The Old Man & the Gun alongside Robert Redford. It was one of the last performances from the Hollywood legend before his retirement. Crowley once again proved that the weight of a scene doesn't depend on the number of lines in the script.

Figures and Reels of Film

In 2023 he joined the cast of The Bikeriders directed by Jeff Nichols. The production had a budget of 40 million dollars and was shot entirely on location in Cincinnati. That meant Crowley could drive his own car to work every morning.

There's never a shortage of work.

In 2025, he appears in Alto Knights, directed by Barry Levinson. Filming took place mainly in Ohio and New Jersey with a first-rate crew. The movie was shot with state-of-the-art digital cameras and required more than sixty days of actual production on set.
