Khloé Kardashian was born in Los Angeles in 1984 and spent much of her youth in the shadow of a last name that still meant nothing to the general public. Before the cameras, she worked as an assistant to Nicole Richie. At the time, no one suspected that her private life would end up driving a multimillion-dollar TV industry.
In 2007, E! premiered Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The project started as filler programming but ended up running for twenty consecutive seasons. Khloé took on the role of the blunt, unfiltered sister (a trait that set her apart from her sisters from the very first episode).
And the audience connected with that roughness.
But her work didn't stop at appearing in front of the camera. During the years the main series aired, she took on executive producing duties for several spin-offs, such as Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami in 2009. She learned the craft of television from the inside, through editing and content production.
In 2016, she co-founded Good American with Emma Grede. The brand brought in one million dollars on its first day of sales. It wasn't just jeans. The project was built on inclusive sizing that pushed major retailers to change how they displayed the product in stores.
Because Khloé understood before many executives did that the market was changing. So she diversified her investments into the wellness and business book sectors. In 2015, she published Strong Looks Better Naked, and the book quickly hit the bestseller lists in the United States.
Then came the leap into documentaries and true crime.
In 2018, she produced Twisted Sisters for the Investigation Discovery network. This work as an executive producer of content outside her own family revealed an interest in procedural storytelling. The show explored crimes committed by sisters and had strong commercial performance, earning a renewal in 2019.
The deal she signed with Disney in 2020 to move her content to Hulu changed the structure of her business. She no longer depended on traditional cable TV advertising. The new format of The Kardashians, which premiered in 2022, aimed for a more polished cinematic look and complete control over the final edit.
But streaming viewership data is opaque. Analysts estimate that the family's overall deal with the platform exceeded one hundred million dollars for two years of content.
The strategy works.
In 2024, Good American kept its headquarters in Los Angeles with a staff of more than one hundred direct employees. Filming for the show's fifth season for Hulu wrapped with a production budget double that of its early days in 2007.
