Madoka Yonezawa did not seek the spotlight when she entered the Japanese voice-acting industry. In 2005, she landed her first supporting roles in productions such as Glass Mask and Major. But her entry into the 81 Produce agency is what set the course of her career.
The year 2009 changed her bank account and her international recognition. She played Ui Hirasawa in the mass hit K-On!. That role of a responsible younger sister required a sweet yet firm vocal range that struck a chord with audiences worldwide.
And the gamble paid off.
Because after that success, many expected her to get stuck in children's roles. So in 2012, she decided to voice Izumi Akazawa in the horror thriller Another. Here she broke away from the good-girl image and delivered a performance full of tension and technical coolness.
The arrival of White Album 2 in 2013 was her biggest acting challenge to date. Her role as Setsuna Ogiso required her not only to act but also to carry a deeply emotional musical load. She recorded more than ten songs for the franchise, including opening themes and acoustic versions that are still sold on digital platforms.
Singing in front of the music stand was not everything.
In 2016, she took part in New Game!, bringing Shizuku Hazuki to life. This character allowed her to explore a much more mature and eccentric tone within a competitive work environment. Before recording these sessions, she would often study the rhythm of the dialogue to match her breathing to the finished animation.
The anime industry often sidelines female voice actors once they turn forty. But Yonezawa breaks that statistic with a schedule focused on long-running projects. In 2022, she returned to her role as Cocopo in the TV adaptation of Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth.
Her presence in the video game industry has been constant for decades. In 2024, she continued her involvement with big-budget titles such as Princess Connect! Re:Dive, where she voices Saren. She has more than 150 official credits in animation productions and specialized software voice-overs.
She keeps her residence in Osaka Prefecture and manages her public appearances with complete discretion. Her contract with 81 Produce remains in effect after nearly twenty years of uninterrupted contractual partnership.
