Manu Ríos was born in Calzada de Calatrava in 1998. It's the same town in Ciudad Real province that saw Pedro Almodóvar grow up. At just nine years old, he was already in front of a camera on the regional show Cantando en familia. It wasn't child's play, because shortly after he went on to appear on Tú sí que vales and Cántame cómo pasó.
At the age of eleven, he moved to Madrid to play Gavroche in the musical Les Misérables. His parents ran a hair salon in their town, but they soon understood that their son's future lay in the capital. That theater training gave him a technical foundation that many of his generation took years to acquire.
Many people saw him only as a good-looking body on social media.
The internet was his real business school before it became his launch pad. In 2014, he started posting cover songs on YouTube and carefully styled photos on Instagram. He built millions of followers before landing a single leading role on national television. But his ultimate goal was always pure acting.
In 2021, he joined the fourth season of Élite as Patrick Blanco. Netflix was looking for a profile that combined physical magnetism with an established fan base in the digital world. The series acted as a particle accelerator for his public image worldwide. The character was excessive and hedonistic (a perfect package for fast consumption), and he stayed with the project for three seasons.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2022, he starred in the miniseries La edad de la ira. Here his range shifted to something much darker and more dramatic. He played a teenager accused of murdering his father, in a story about homophobia and systemic violence. It was the proof he needed to show he could carry a complex plot without leaning on the school uniform.
Pedro Almodóvar cast him in the short film Strange Way of Life in 2023. He shot in the Almería desert alongside actors of the caliber of Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal. It was a thirty-minute western where silence weighed more than dialogue. Ríos played a young singer in a key scene that served as a direct nod to his real beginnings in music.
Fashion is not a side note in his career. In 2022, he attended the Met Gala at the direct invitation of Moschino. Luxury brands like Jacquemus and Saint Laurent use his frame to connect with an audience that no longer watches traditional TV. Yet he repeats in every interview that clothing is just a costume for the next character.
In 2024, he filmed the series Breathe, playing a resident doctor at a public hospital in Valencia. The project was a total change of pace (much more frantic and technical) under the direction of David Pinillos and Marta Font. To prepare for the role, he had to learn basic resuscitation maneuvers and real emergency room protocols.
And the phone of the top directors hasn't stopped ringing.
The production company that manages his image rights brings in several million euros a year in advertising contracts. Filming his latest international production in 2025 required civil liability insurance exceeding 300,000 euros per workday. The final contract included a ten-year confidentiality clause covering the details of the technical script.
